1923 Egypt Arguments Over Tutankhamen Treasures
18th February, 1923 : Following the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen in Luxor Egypt and the vast number of treasures valued at over 15,000,000 by Lord Carnarvon an eminent British archeologist, the arguments over who should own these treasures is just starting with claims by the British, American’s and Egypt . The treasures were buried over 3000 years ago and are considered to be the most important find ever from the ancient world made by ancient craftsman with gold and jewels. It is thought a compromise will be reached with many of the treasures going to Museums in Britain and America and the remainder in Museums in Egypt.

18th February, 1925 : A home (local) talent show had scheduled a musical production to be held at the Auspice, Iowa Odd Fellows Lodge. Various minstrel numbers were to be presented by local school children. Solos, quartets, and choruses were planned.

1930 Space Pluto Discovered
18th February, 1930 : Astronomer Clyde Tombaugh located a new planet while in the observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, and named it after the Greek god of the underworld, Pluto. ( It has since been downgraded to a dwarf planet )

18th February, 1932 : Sonja Henie won her 6th straight World Women’s figure skating title in Montreal, Canada

1937 U.S.A. Dust Storms
18th February, 1937 : Dust storms hit five states-in Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico. Within a few days, a dozen deaths had occurred. Likewise, influenza and pneumonia patients were easily affected, as the dust storms had made breathing difficult for them. The dust storms were so severe that people could taste the dirt and other substance in their food at dinner time. Furthermore, clouds of dust were so thick that it blocked the light of the sun. Homeowners and/or renters were advised to plug their window sills and door jams as well as hang wet sheets over doors and windows. However, it was nearly impossible to make an area 100% dust-free.

18th February, 1937 : It took some work for reporters to “get the truth out” of actress Mary Astor-until this day. She had eloped in Yuma, Arizona and had united in Matrimony to Manuel Del Campo

1938 China Japanese Attack Planned
18th February, 1938 : It was reported that the Japanese were planning an attack south of the Yellow River. They were headed towards the western portion of the central front of China.

1938 U.S.A. Twister Rodessa, Louisiana
18th February, 1938 : A twister that hit in Rodessa, Louisiana has left a trail of death with 25 killed so far. Numerous more people were missing, and serious damage had been done to the area . Some of the worst area damage that had been done (besides the taking of human lives) included the “swooping” of about a dozen supply shacks and oil wells. These shacks and wells had been carried well over a mile, by up to several hundred yards wide. The search is still on for the rest of the persons who were still not found.

18th February, 1943 : A small group of anti Nazi students known as the White Rose movement were arrested after distributing leaflets with anti NAZI Propaganda are arrested and sentenced 5 days later by “The Peoples Court” to death and are beheaded.

1951 England Russia Cold War Conflict
18th February, 1951 : Great Britain had held the Russians accountable for using excessive force, rebellious actions, and various aggressive tactics to prevent peace. Great Britain’s charge against Russia was initiated after Great Britain was accused of violating a peace agreement by assisting in the re-arming of West Germany. After Russia’s charge against Great Britain, a five-page note had been prepared and sent to Soviet Ambassador Georgi N. Zarubin. Russia was being of using too much aggression around the world. This force was used in order to spread its communist ideologies.

1977 U.S.A. Space Shuttle
18th February, 1977 : The space shuttle Enterprise, sitting atop a Boeing 747, went on its maiden flight above the Mojave Desert.
